Jack's Sonnet he performed in BA Published on Dec 8, 2014 Jack Martin (82) is wheelchair bound after suffering from a stroke in 2005. Eight years later he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Five months later in distress he worked hard to recite a Shakespeare Sonnet No. 29 so he could be a part of the festival, where his son was performing. He accomplished his mission at the Mitchell Performing Arts Center Reception Hall in Bryn Athyn, Pa. Six months later Hospice care began. His mind served him well during his disability. and today his spirit and love of learning something new continues to reach out. Even now as his body passed away on November 29, 2014 . "When in disgrace with Fortune and men's eyes, I all alone beweep my outcast state, And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries, And look upon myself and curse my fate, Wishing me like to one more rich in hope, Featured like him, like him with friends possess'd, Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope, With what I most enjoy contented least. Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising, Haply I think on thee, and then my state, Like to the lark at break of day arising From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate; For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings That then I scorn to change my state with kings."
